Pet bed with scrap yarn
This project is ideal to use up some scrap yarn.
I did use black as a main colour but you can use any colour combination. My pet bed was made for our cat but it can be used for similar sized pets. Have fun with this free pattern, I would love to see what you made. Follow me on Instagram via yarn_art_with_crochet and post your own creations. |
Yarn UK, 3 ply dk yarn,
A Black200gOr random colours
B Random colours200g
Hook used:H/8 5mm
Other supplies needed:
Stitch markers (SM), darning needle, Toy or cushion stuffing,
Stitches used in this project
MC magic circle, SC single crochet, CH chain, SS slip stitch
Popcorn stitch: pop
1. Work 4 double crochet (dc) stitches in the same stitch. The top of the first dc is used to close the stitch in round 3.
2. Drop the loop from your hook. (nothing on the hook)
3. Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group.
4. Grab the dropped loop (round 2) with your hook and pull it through the stitch.
5. ch1 to close
6. If needed push out the popcorn stitch
sc2tog:
1. Insert the hook through the front loop of the stitch only (two loops on the hook) 4 as its double
2. Insert the hook through the front loop of the next stitch (three loops on the hook) 6 as its double
3. Yarn over hook and pull through first two loops on the hook, then yarn over and go through both remaining loops to complete the single crochet. (this creates an invisible decrease stitch)
Notes:
* The following pattern has US instructions.
* Stitches marked in parentheses are in the same stitch
Example: (2sc) means 2sc into the same stitch
* Washing: Read the care label on chosen yarn. This would usualy be handwash only
* Use stitch markers to mark the start of each round.
Alternatively use a contrasting thread and weave up around the last stitch of each round to the first. When finished simply pull through to remove.
Finished size:17 x 17" (43 x 43cm)

Using pins hold in place one large tube to one side of the square.
Ensure you are working from the back of the square.
Using one strand of A yarn or black sew along one edge of the square to one of the long tubes leaving aproximatly half an inch at either end. Do not sew the full length.
Connect a small tube and sew together with the side of the long tube. Continue to sew along the edge of the square to the centre of the tubes.
When you finish you can go back and secure the corners with more stitches between tubes.
